About

Artist Bio

Freya Nash is a London-based artist. Her interdisciplinary practice speaks to the transitional experience of life and the fragile boundaries that we transgress as humans. Looking towards the transformative process of time and change, she explores memory, the body, the unconscious and the remnant of traces as both somatic and psychological marks left by experience.

Materiality is integral to her practice as evolving works become physical manifestations of internal processing. Consequently, she often works through a range of techniques and materials from embroidery to welding, oil painting to film.

In an attempt to map out the visceral realities of suffering, healing, loss and renewal, she embarks on a journey of self-realisation through exploration and assemblage. Looking beyond and between lived experiences to locate familiar tensions when exploring complex emotions surrounding impermanence. This, in turn, highlights the precious nature of the body and enduring development of the psyche which is explored amid liminal states.

A meditation on these subjects inevitably brings about a reflection of the subjective and collective, division and unity. Just as we reside in the wider context of humanity, so does each piece reside within a wider body; an ongoing conversation. Here, fragments are gathered together, rearranged and reformed through ritual acts. Language and the process of ‘making’ is used as a thread throughout this process in order to form a correspondence between self and other, interior and exterior.
